Curtains may be a traditional window covering but can be very versatile
and this is especially true if you have a large or unusually shaped
window which can be transformed into the focal point of the room..
Unlined curtains are more suitable for the kitchen or bathroom where
there is a lot of steam or condensation and, depending on the fabric
used, can be washable.
More formal curtains can be backed with various linings which not
only help them to hang better but can aid insulation and reduce
the amount of light entering the room. I recommend that lined curtains
be dry cleaned only as the 2 separate fabrics can shrink at different
rates.
Plain tab tops can be added to both lined and unlined curtains or
valances for a more contemporary look.
Where privacy is needed but light is essential a cafe curtain is
ideal as it only covers the lower half of the window.
Sunburst curtains are usually made out of sheer fabric and are ideal
for covering arched windows and the fanlight windows above doors.
You can easily make a focal point out of an ordinary glass door
by adding a simple hourglass curtain tied at the centre with a bow
of ribbon.
For the ultimate in simplicity we have added curtains that require
no sewing at all.

your own window treaments. |
